Musicianship & Composition

Musicianship is a broad program of study that focuses on the theoretical aspects of music. Topics covered in the four levels of musicianship classes include clef reading, intervals, form and harmonic analysis, sight-reading, and dictation. A vital feature of the program lies in the strengthening of aural recognition skills, which will greatly aid the student in solo as well as ensemble playing. A placement exam, administered at entrance auditions, is used to determine the appropriate class level.

Advanced students who have completed Level IV of the musicianship curriculum are eligible to enroll in Composition classes.

Musicianship classes take place on Saturdays. Composition classes may take place on Saturdays or Fridays.
